If you are a Berwick resident and have owned a home in Maine for 12 months prior to April 1st, are a permanent resident of the State of Maine and declare Berwick your homestead, you may be eligible for up to a $20,000 reduction in your property assessment.
If you are a Berwick resident who had served in the U.S. Armed Forces during a federally recognized war period, and are 62 years old as of April 1 of the current year, you may be eligible for up to a $6,000 reduction in the valuation of your property. You must provide your DD-214 or discharge papers with your application.
WIDOWED SPOUSE, CHILD OR PARENT OF A VETERAN
If you are a Berwick resident who is a non-remarried spouse of a veteran entitled to the Veteran's exemption, you may be eligible for up to a $6,000 reduction in the valuation of your property assessment.
If you are a Berwick resident and have been determined legally blind by a properly licensed Doctor of Medicine, Osteopathy or Optometry, you may be eligible for the Blind Person Exemption, resulting in a $4,000 reduction of valuation on your property assessment.
