Stephen G. Eldridge, MPA


Steve grew up in Gorham, Maine and spent his high school and college years in Connecticut. He attended Eastern Connecticut State University and received a BA in Environmental Biology. Steve and his family returned to Maine in 1989. He attended the University of Maine, Orono where he completed his Masters of Public Administration. He has been a town manager for 23 years and has lived in Monmouth for 30 years.

After completing his MPA Steve began his public administration career in the town of Etna Maine a rural community of 1,100 citizens. He was their first town manager. He has also managed the Town of Greene, Rumford and Lisbon. He spent 10 months in between Rumford and Lisbon as Joint Services Coordinator for the Cities of Lewiston and Auburn working with the cities administration and Consolidation Committee to put together a model and feasibility study for consolidating municipal departments to find efficiencies and reduce costs.   After leaving Lisbon Steve spent time as Interim Town Manager in Bethel and as the Town Manager in Vinalhaven, Maine before coming to Berwick. He and his wife Ellen raised their children, Donald, Erin and Christopher in Monmouth. 

As Town Manager he manages the day to day operations of all the municipal departments and carries out the policies and goals of the Board of Selectmen. The town manager with the finance director prepares the annual budget for the Board of Selectmen and the final annual warrant that goes to the public for approval. He serves as Public Health Officer, Treasurer, Tax Collector, Road Commissioner and Public Information Officer. (
